Pioneering Freshness Across Africa's Agrifood Chain

From household pantries to processing lines, we believe fresh, high-quality food should be within everyone's reach.

The Problem We Set Out to Solve

African agriculture loses a staggering share of its harvest before it ever reaches a buyer — not from lack of good produce, but from a lack of cold storage. Crops spoil in transit, farmers absorb the loss, and buyers pay for scarcity and inconsistency instead of quality.

We built SmithField to close that gap.

What We Do

SmithField operates its own integrated cold chain — from the moment produce leaves the farm to the moment it reaches your door, kitchen, or facility. We off-take directly from a trusted network of farmers and move that produce through temperature-controlled handling at every stage, supplying:

And because we believe the whole chain deserves better infrastructure, we extend our cold storage capability — Cold Chain as a Service (CCaaS) — to the farmer cooperatives we partner with, alongside agronomy support that helps smallholders raise yields and meet commercial standards.

We control the cold chain because quality can't be outsourced.

By owning and operating our own temperature-controlled infrastructure and logistics, including solar-powered reliability that reduces dependence on the grid, we maintain strict control over handling at every step — not dependent on third parties whose incentives may not match ours. That control is what lets us promise freshness and actually deliver it, every time.

Our Commitments

To households: produce that's genuinely fresh, not just fresh-sounding

To businesses: supply you can plan your operations around

To farmers and cooperatives: fair off-take terms, real market access, and infrastructure support that reduces their risk

To the food system: less waste, fewer broken links, a more resilient chain from farm to table

Where We're Headed

We're building toward a future where post-harvest loss is the exception, not the norm — where a smallholder farmer's harvest reaches a family's table with nothing lost in between. Every household we deliver to and every cooperative we support moves that future closer.
